All about Pigmentation removal

For optimal results, it is recommended to undergo three monthly treatments. The type, colour, and depth of pigmentation, as well as the condition of the skin, will determine the number of required treatments and their effectiveness.

Please be aware that eliminating the undesired pigment may not be possible. If you are curious whether this treatment suits you and will meet your skin expectations, we recommend consulting with one of our dermal experts.

Our laser treatment effectively reduces pigmentation with minimal side effects, explicitly targeting sweat glands. Schedule your appointment today!

Excess skin pigmentation or hyperpigmentation typically results from excessive melanin, causing an overproduction and clustering of melanin, resulting in brown or darker pigmentation spots on the skin.

Causes of skin pigmentation issues include:

  • UV radiation can cause skin pigmentation problems, particularly in areas with high levels of UV radiation, like Australia.
  • Melasma or chloasma is a pigmentation commonly caused by hormonal changes, such as pregnancy or contraceptive pills.
  • Trauma to the skin, such as physical trauma, chemical peels, laser treatments, or acne, can lead to post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, which is a common condition.
  • Skin pigmentation can be present at birth (birthmarks) and appear in childhood or adulthood. Examples include congenital melanocytic nevus, cafe au lait spots, spills nevus, Hori’s macules, and nevus of ota.
  • Excessive skin pigmentation can be caused by factors such as UV exposure, hormonal changes, and skin trauma, and could also be congenital.
  • Pigmentation can be addressed with the use of lasers and lightening creams.
  • Treatment choice depends on the type of pigmentation, patient preference, and risk tolerance.
  • Pigmentation can be categorised as epidermal, dermal, or mixed.
  • Various lasers are utilised for multiple types of skin pigmentation and skin types.
  • UV protection/sunscreen is crucial in the treatment of pigmentation.
  • Special care should be taken when performing laser treatment on olive or darker skin.

Our clinic provides a variety of laser treatments for depigmentation, suitable for all areas of the body, including sensitive ones.

Laser treatment can fix face pigmentation

Based on our experience, pigmentation blemishes on the face are considered the most sensitive type. Clients who have such marks often experience daily anxieties about their appearance, and they are equally concerned about the potential of laser treatments exacerbating the issue. However, we assure you that treating pigmentation on sensitive facial skin is completely safe and highly effective when using the appropriate laser.

Lip pigmentation laser treatment

Lip laser lightening treatments are a popular alternative to chemical treatments as they can effectively lighten the lips and stimulate collagen production, resulting in plumper and softer lips.

Acne pigmentation laser treatment

Acne can cause severe bumps that result in itchy, painful, and unsightly pockmarks and scars. Laser treatments effectively remove hyperpigmentation and exfoliate the skin, producing an even, soft complexion.

Laser pigmentation removal is for darker skin.

Laser treatments target blemishes by absorbing the energy of lasers with dark melanin. However, the power cannot distinguish between excess melanin in the blemish and melanin in the skin. Laser treatment may not be ideal for removing marks on dark skin. Visit us for an assessment, and our clinicians will evaluate your hyperpigmentation and recommend the most suitable treatment.

Laser for pigmentation is a procedure that uses beams of light to target and break down pigmented cells in the skin specifically. This treatment effectively addresses unwanted dark spots by fragmenting the pigment without causing harm to the surrounding skin tissue and cells.

The targeted pigment will darken before developing a light crust that naturally flakes off within three to seven days.

It is recommended to undergo 2-6 sessions for optimal results, depending on the type of pigmentation being treated.

This product is recommended for individuals with Fitzpatrick Skin Types I-III.

  • If you have received a tan treatment, it may be necessary to reschedule. It is recommended to avoid all activities that may darken the skin, including driving and using tanning products, for at least two to four weeks before the treatment. Additionally, it is advised to apply SPF30+ sunscreen and reapply hourly if exposed to the sun during this time.
  • Please refrain from removing hair or using any hair removal methods on the areas we will treat for at least two weeks before the treatment.
  • Refraining from using Retin-A for two weeks or Roaccutane for at least six months before treatment is advised.

Following your laser procedure, it is advisable to adhere to the given guidelines for a minimum of seven days.

Minimise exposure to sunlight

Daily moisturisation with the specified cream is advised.

The daily application of sunscreen with an SPF of 50+ is advised.

A cold compress is suggested for two to three hours after returning home.

Opting for paracetamol over aspirin is advised.

Refraining from physical exercises and swimming in pools with chlorine or saltwater is advised.

Steer clear of hot showers, saunas, and steam rooms.

New patrons might need complimentary consultations for certain specific treatments.

We recommend new customers arrange a free consultation before any purchase.

How many laser treatments for pigmentation removal?

Optimally, we advise 2-3 treatments for best results, though some individuals may prefer just one session. The decision is yours, based on individual preferences and skin type. We’ll cover all these details in your initial consultation.

Is laser pigmentation removal a permanent solution?

Laser procedures aren’t a permanent fix to halt skin pigmentation. Although they effectively clear away dark spots, blemishes, and scars, there’s a potential for them to reappear, particularly if the skin is consistently exposed to the sun without sufficient protection.

How long should I wait between laser therapy sessions?

A gap of 4-6 weeks is suggested between laser treatment sessions to allow the skin to fully recover before undergoing the next one.

Do pigmentation treatments hurt?

Clients might feel a sensation akin to a rubber band snapping against the skin during the laser procedure. For those worried about discomfort, a topical anesthetic cream can be applied.

Post-treatment, swelling, redness, and soreness are common but usually diminish within a few days.
